The future is sustainable

Sustainability is one of the basic pillars of our business. Ensuring the balance between the economic, environmental and social dimensions is the fundamental principle that guides our performance. We continuously seek sustainability principles to be adopted by all members of our team and actively promote compliance from our suppliers and partners.

Because we are a company producing and converting tissue paper, we believe that progressively reducing the consumption of water, raw material and energy incorporated in each unit of product is a purpose to follow in order to reduce the environmental impact of our operation.

To this end, we monitor the evolution and the fulfilment of the objectives related to our sustainability policy, privileging the real impact of our actions.

It is our ambition to contribute to the recognition of paper sector as a model of circular bio-economy, promoting it as an example for other industries. This ambition leads us to invest in the reuse of raw materials to produce recycled paper.

We believe that it is our responsibility to foster community involvement in all efforts leading to environmental improvement and as such we share in a transparent way the results of our environmental policy.

Finally, and for the sake of independence and credibility, we are currently certifying the environmental quality of key processes of our company.

Sustainability Policy

Fapajal aims to balance the company’s results in three main areas (triple bottom line): environmental, economic and social sustainability.

Because our activity is particularly intensive in the consumption of forest raw materials and energy, we privilege the use of recycled raw materials and renewable energy in the company’s production processes.

The value of transparency is very much present in the relationships we establish with different stakeholders, so we communicate with the market in an interactive, straightforward and transparent way, in order to integrate the interests of the community into the company’s performance and openly share the results achieved.

Fapajal wants to establish itself as an active agent of the sector, with its own voice, consistent in the support of industrial policies that are sustainable and socially responsible, therefore we will provide the company with the necessary means to achieve this.

Social Responsibility

We privilege above all the interests of people, whether customers, team members or suppliers, as well as the products and processes that typically focus the attention of industrial companies.

This belief encourages us to promote quality and sustainable employment, and to ensure the extraordinary remuneration of extraordinary performance.

We assume that we are an integral part of a community that has grown around the factory for the past two centuries. We are the heirs of many generations of workers who have produced paper at the site that is now occupied by Fapajal factory and we are proud to assume our role in the community.

Ambiente

A indústria do papel é consumidora intensiva de recursos naturais, nomeadamente água, energia e fibras vegetais. Contudo, e em particular graças aos avanços tecnológicos, é possível adotar soluções operacionais de eficiência crescente. Consciente do impacto decorrente da sua atividade, a Fapajal identificou os principais fatores produtivos que devem ser geridos para garantir a utilização consciente e moderada dos recursos naturais – ar, energia, água, fibras vegetais.

Tendo como ambição contribuir para o reconhecimento do setor do papel como modelo da bio-economia circular, a Fapajal compromete-se a minimizar os resíduos originados pela sua atividade, os quais, em muitos casos, são reutilizados na produção de papel. Compromete-se ainda a afinar e melhorar permanentemente os processos produtivos e a devolver ao ambiente os recursos tratados, tudo com o objetivo de minimizar o seu impacto ambiental.
